Abstract

The environmental problems caused by the human species are causing the extinction of other species of animals, the devastation of entire forests, pollution of rivers used as a source of water for our survival and air pollution. This article sought to analyze the theoretical contributions of schools of economics related to the environment and then to investigate the behavior of Cuiabanos in relation to the environment and more specifically in relation to observed obsolescence. To achieve these objectives, the article first carried out a bibliographic research and then the application of questionnaires to Cuiabanos from all regions of the city. The two schools analyzed were ecological economics, which shows that there is clearly a negative impact of capitalism on the environment and that the dynamics of the world economy must change, and environmental economics, which show that there are solutions within the current economic model itself and that they are not necessary. no drastic changes. Regarding the data collected, there was a concern of the Cuiabá people in relation to the environment, which is reflected in political choices, but which has little impact on consumption decisions or the habits of our local society.
