Abstract

According to several intellectuals who study the phenomenon of "Globalization", despite the apparent homogenization of the concept, what is observed in the realm of reality is the widening of the gap between rich and poor in the globalized and postmodern world. Among the authors who analyze this concept, we highlight Boaventura de Sousa Santos for whom one of the outlets capable of counteracting the economic and cultural pressures imposed by the hegemonic globalism of the great capitalist powers of the West resides in the effort to value culture and economies regional authorities. This is the case of the innovative experience undertaken by quilombolas of the Association of Mutuca, belonging to the Quilombo Mata Cavalo complex of the Municipality of Nossa Senhora do Livramento, in Mato Grosso, discussed in this article as a case study. Through an administration focused on the demands of the regional market of Baixada Cuiabana, the leaders of Mutuca innovated the processes of production and commercialization of its products, utilizing the community strength of its association in harmony with some of the main assumptions defended by Sousa and Santos, which confirms in practice the empirical applicability of their theories.
